thanks for the info.. Thank God I was able to find cheap insurance for car at statefarm which gives us only 172/mo. for 2 drivers.

Canadian direct gave us 320/mo and TD gave us 274/mo. for 1 driver alone lang ito.

Kasi I have 4 kids, and I really need to drive them when we go out kasi wala naman ako maasahan dyan pagdating namin para gawin yon sa amin? Please let me know kung ano po pwede gawin para makapagdrive ako agad dyan pagdating namin. thanks po sa mga sasagot ng tanong ko.

Hi 4 princesses,

In short, the answer is yes!
Upon arrival, you can still use your your valid (non-expired) LTO license for 3 months upon arrival. On the 3rd month or later than that date you can go to the nearest ICBC (insurance corp of BC) licensing office to surrender your license (they will return it only after you get your new BC driver's license) and take & pass the easy Knowledge Test (conducted via computer in a "stall") and get a learner (or novice) provisional driver's license.

If you have not driven before in North America, I suggest you immediately get a few hours driving lessons para ma-orient ka sa driving rules and road signs and signals sa canada.

Here is the site for ICBC:
http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/get....ariables._frag_

Since you have 4 girls (princesses), you may need a minivan that can accommodate up to 6 or 7 people. Since you may not be able to buy or lease a vehicle on installment payments, you nay have to buy in cash- whether brand new or used. In either case send me a PM should you prefer brand new Toyota or non-Toyota brand used vehicles. (my wife works for Regency Toyota in Kingsway in Vancouver).

You also need to buy appropriate child safety or booster seats for the kids.

Hi to Simonmag! Thank you for that helpful tips you shared. Actually I have 4 girls with ages 12, 8, 6 and 4 and the young ones all need a booster seat. My husband is already in Richmond but I doubt if he knows all bout kids' safety and the license concerns. The website is really helpful. By the way, my husband has already acquired his brand new mini van through bank financing. Good to hear that we have good fellows who work in car companies. Who knows I might be needing another car when I get there and fortunately meet your wife in person. I'll get in toch with you. Right now, i'm still waiting for our passports to be returned by embassy and hoping that we'll get there before new year. Thanks again!

Cheers,

Good Day!

Just came from the LTO local office dito sa Dagupan City, Pangasinan. I asked for a certification to have drove for the number of years appearing on my license. The LTO employee gave me a form used to acquire/renew license and I was asked to pay P168. We asked around and they said it was the amount charged to those acquiring a new license.

We took the form home and are thinking of getting the certification in their Central Office, kasi parang di naman nila alam yung sinasabi namin.

Sa tingin niyo? Better ba sa Manila or parehas lang?

@ victor

$125 for written test and g2 road test, then $75 for a G road test.

if you are going to BC useless na yan ang lto certificate naka lagay na sa card license natin ang year na first nakuha natin ang license. the 2 numbers after the FO3- ( 2 numbers are the year you got your 1st license.) and they can count how many years na license mo.
what you need to get a discount sa car insurance is a certificate from your car insurance company in manila na may insurance ka sa kanila for at least 8 years without any claim to avail of the maximum 40 percent discount. its 5 percent for every year na wala kang claim. it has to be a letter from an insurance company letter head and they do verify the authenticity of the letter. so a letter without actual insurance is useless.
i'm paying the full amount sa van ko dahil wala akong permanente na insurance sa pinas. the max is $230 a month.
